The Open and Wimbledon are two tournaments that are on a 'first name' basis with sports fans.
Some might call it, "The British" Open or the "Open Championships". Any golfer who has ever hacked his way around a course dreams of two things. Playing a round at Augusta and walking up the 18th fairway at any course associated with the British open and having the crowd fall in behind them, as you walk to the 18th green in glory.
This year, the tournament runs from July 19-22 at Carnoustie.
Not exactly a household name for golf course aficianados, the sport was first played in the area in 1527. The current course dates back to 1842.
