Johnny B. Goode

On March 31, 1958, Chuck Berry released the hit Johnny B. Goode.  It took all of six weeks to hit the charts and would later peak at #8 on the Billboard Top 100 hit charts of the late 50s, amidst some serious issues with radio air play.  The song rose to popularity among both white and black audiences, mostly youth.

It has since been widely covered by nearly every rock n' roll band and singer to come along as one of the most popular and recognizable songs in music history. Berry was inducted to the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame in 1986 and he played this song, backed by Bruce Springsteen among others.

It was 54 years ago but the song is as popular today as it was when it hit the charts in '58 along with "At the Hop" and the Chipmunk Song. Amazingly, when checking for the top 100 of 1958, Johnny B. Goode rated at #81 for the year but when Rolling Stone listed its Top 500 songs of all-time, Johnny B. Goode came in at #7.  (see list HERE).
