AND1 Adds Teams from NBA Veteran Stephen Jackson, Hip Hop Icon Juelz Santana to Summer Remix Tourney

The Source Magazine Joins the Entertainment Lineup for $100,000 Winner-Take-All signature event, August 29-September 1 at The Liacouras Center at Temple University

The AND1 apparel and sneaker brand and event partner IMG Worldwide, the global sports, fashion and media company, today announced additional participants and entertainment partners for the inaugural 12-team, $100,000, winner-take-all Summer Remix Tournament, the largest cash prize in streetball history. The event will be held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the Liacouras Center on the campus of Temple University during Labor Day Weekend (August 29 – September 1).

Thirteen year NBA veteran Stephen Jackson’s OG Trill Squad, featuring NBA players Wilson Chandler and Marcus Thorton, won the Tournament of the Stars in Louisiana this past weekend and is scheduled to compete at the event. In addition, Skull Gang, a team assembled by hip-hop icon Juelz Santana, has been added to the list of "deep" talent to compete in the streetball tournament. 

Santana, who will perform before his team takes the floor, joins a trio of music legends with a passion for basketball in Michael Bivins, Jermaine Dupri and Rico Love, who will all captain or coach teams which will be comprised of several pro players, as well as some of the most accomplished individual basketball and streetball talents in the world.

AND1 with some Great News for Philly

Philadelphia Selected to Host AND1 Summer Remix Basketball Tournament
Nationwide tryouts to be held leading to AND1’s signature event scheduled for
 August 29-September 1 at the Liacouras Center on the campus of Temple University

May 22, 2013 –  The AND1 apparel and sneaker brand, in conjunction with IMG, today announced the creation of the AND1 Summer Remix Basketball Tournament.  The new event will be a 12 team, $100,000, winner-take-all tournament held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the Liacouras Center on the campus of Temple University over Labor Day Weekend (August 29 – September 1).  IMG will work closely with AND1 on all the administrative elements of the event, the overall management of marketing and promotion and oversee the event logistics.

The event coincides with the fact AND1 was founded 20 years ago in Philadelphia by two business school students.

“This tournament is a great step to advance our position as the preeminent street basketball brand worldwide,” said AND1 marketing director Maurice Levy. “This event will celebrate our roots in Philadelphia, featuring high level basketball and incorporating music to give our fans what they’ve been missing these past few years.”

“IMG jumped at the opportunity to work with AND1 to create a new event that would resonate in the streets of Philadelphia,” said Jordan Harris, event producer for IMG.  “The AND1 Summer Remix basketball tournament will be the basketball event of the summer of 2013.”

Teams will be comprised of some of the best players from across the country including professionals, as well as streetball legends.   AND1 Live will also host the first of several nation-wide Open Run tryouts that begin in New York City at the Dunlevy Milbank Center on June 8, 2013 from 12pm-4pm, giving anyone the chance to participate in the event.  More open tryouts will be held in select locations across the United States.  The best eight players from all of the tryouts will form a free agent team and be allowed entry into the tournament. 
Additional details, from the announcement of team captains to the naming of celebrity coaches for each participating team, along with musical talent for the event will be made in the coming weeks.
