Glasnost in the NBA ...

There's been a lot of buzz in the basketball world as the New Jersey Nets negotiate a sale of the team to billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov of Russia. The news reminded me of my first trip to Russia which took place in 1988. The trip took us to Moscow, Tiblisi (Rep. of Georgia), Vilnius (Lithuania) and back to Moscow as the Atlanta Hawks, then owned by Ted Turner, played three friendly games against the former USSR national team.
