The Rutgers women's basketball team is getting more coverage as a victim of the Don Imus insensitive and biased remarks than a US soldier's family gets when they bring home their son/daughter in a body bag.
Speaking of the war, USA Today filed this report:
At least 20,000 U.S. troops who were not classified as wounded during combat in Iraq and Afghanistan have been found with signs of brain injuries, according to military and veterans records compiled by USA TODAY.
The data, provided by the Army, Navy and Department of Veterans Affairs, show that about five times as many troops sustained brain trauma as the 4,471 officially listed by the Pentagon through Sept. 30. These cases also are not reflected in the Pentagon's official tally of wounded, which stands at 30,327.

Dick Pound's final day at WADA is almost as good as Karl Rove's final day at the White House.

I really enjoy the many tournaments that start off the NCAA men's college basketball schedule. The NIT, Coaches vs. Cancer, US Virgin Islands Paradise Jam, Maui Invitational, and the new Old Spice Classic at Disney sports complex in Orlando. The Old Spice, just added this year, will become a Maui Invitational of the East without the travel woes and time zone change.

Where have all the pro bull riders gone? Long time passing.

Mark Cuban trumpets all there is to know about P2P on his weblog. I trumpet some P2P team defense concepts to be taught to Jason Terry.

The Thanksgiving Day NFL games need to cut the crap with the post game 'awards' and trophies, like the all-iron team by Phil Simms. It is just ridiculous. The turkey drumsticks by John Madden were cool and it happened somewhat naturally. Why can't the networks just stick to the same tradition and present two drumsticks? One for offensive star and one for best defensive star - each game on each network. Period.

UCLA's Kevin Love is the real deal, already getting compared to former Bruins great Bill Walton. However, Bill's connection to the Grateful Dead is much cooler than Love's connection to his uncle Mike, of Beach Boys fame. After icing Yale, 81-47 yesterday, the #1 ranked UCLA Bruins will be tested in their next two games, vs. #16 Texas and #25 Davidson.

Why isn't the Sports Guy, Bill Simmons of ESPN.com, honoring the Hollywood writer's strike? (vs. Disney, no less?)

George Mason's 87-77 win over Kansas State is a nice early-season eye opener. Mason had five guys in double figures while K-State had a 30-10 game from freshman Michael Beasley. Beasley is already on the top of the mock drafts if he decides to go pro after a year at K-State. Villanova, by the way, defeated Mason, 84-76, last night at the finals of the Old Spice classic in Orlando. A nice tournament which has an equally stacked field all set for next November.
In 2008, the field will include Gonzaga, Maryland, Memphis, Michigan State,
Oklahoma State, Siena, Tennessee and Wichita State.
Five of those – Gonzaga, Maryland, Memphis, Michigan State and Tennessee –
qualified for the 2007 NCAAs. Oklahoma State qualified for the NIT. Tennessee advanced to the Sweet 16 in NCAA Tournament play and Memphis advanced to the Elite 8 losing to eventual runner-up Ohio State.

The CFL did their state of the league press conference at 8:15 in the morning. A former NBA international staffer, Mark Cohon, is the CFL commissioner. He made news by stating that he believes the NFL will place a franchise in Toronto and that, as the CFL commissioner, he will embrace the idea. In the 'note to self' category: Call or email Mark to suggest that they stage all future press conferences and media events at a time when media is awake.
